This is partly achieved by setting the show 17/18 years after Robert's Rbellion, while the book took place 15 years after. So the characters are older and played older in the show.
Not a matter of right or wrong. It's dealing with the logistics of creating a successful show that is appealing. Books watchers are the minority, unfortunately. If the show was done like the books, you would need too much background information and clarification throughout the series for it to make sense.
